This is not a lion (Panthera leo). This is a cougar/puma/mountain lion (Felis concolor).

It's so not fair that you in AU get to see these gorgeous cats up close, and I live where they run wild and we pretty much never have local wildlife at the san diego zoo.

Still: what a great picture :) It would make a fun bookmark!

I really like this picture, but I dont' think this is a lion its either a cougar or puma. The tail and face colorings are right for it. Its sucha comfy, lazy looking pose I like it

A cougar and a puma are the same thing. Cougar, puma, mountain lion are all the same species.

And yes, this is not the traditional lion.
